Omega WWW “Dirty Dozen” – World War II British Military Watch

Few vintage watches offer the combination of military provenance, historical importance and understated design found in the Omega WWW, one of the legendary British military “Dirty Dozen” watches.

Produced for the British military during the closing years of the Second World War, the WWW watches were commissioned to a strict Ministry of Defence specification. Twelve Swiss manufacturers were selected to produce watches meeting the required standards, with Omega among the most prestigious names in the group. Collectively, these watches have become known to collectors as the “Dirty Dozen.”

The Omega is particularly desirable for its combination of rugged military construction and classic Swiss watchmaking. The approximately 35mm stainless-steel case, highly legible black dial, luminous Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds and distinctive military Broad Arrow provide an unmistakable utilitarian aesthetic — designed for clarity and reliability rather than decoration.

At its heart is Omega’s celebrated manual-winding calibre 30T2, one of the company’s most respected movements of the period. Renowned for its robustness, simplicity and reliability, the 30T2 was ideally suited to the demands of military service.

The case back carries the characteristic military markings associated with these watches, including W.W.W. and the Broad Arrow, identifying it as a British government-issued military timepiece.

Only around 25,000 Omega WWW examples are believed to have been produced, making surviving original examples increasingly attractive to collectors.
