A rare and intriguing 1970s Breitling Navitimer presented on a fabulous steel bracelet. Celebrated beside the Heuer Carrera, Omega Speedmaster and the Rolex Daytona as one of the horological icons of the 1960s and ’70s, the Navitimer is synonymous with functional brilliance. Famously worn by such legendary racing drivers as Jim Clarke and Graham Hill, this pilot’s watch was developed with the AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association). Unusual for its time, the Navitimer boasts its famed slide rule bezel which surrounds a 40mm case with a thickness of 13mm, housing a myriad of complex functions on its dial. What was once an all-black display in the ’50s evolved into the classic ‘reverse panda’ design as seen on this early 1970s model, which improves legibility in low-light conditions through contrasting white subdials.

The condition of this example is outstanding. One fascinating feature is the inclusion of a date window between 4 and 5 o’clock. Rarely encountered on a stainless steel bracelet, this treasured pilots watch is essential to any vintage watch collection.
