Rolex Explorer 214270 – Box Papers 2019
A superb example of the iconic Rolex Explorer reference 214270, presented in the highly sought-after 39mm case and dating from 2019.
The Explorer 214270 represents the final generation of Rolex’s larger 39mm Explorer before the model was discontinued in 2021. This particular generation features the updated MK2 dial, with the characteristic luminous Arabic 3, 6 and 9 numerals and longer hands, giving the watch excellent legibility and a well-balanced appearance.
The watch features Rolex’s classic 904L stainless steel Oyster case, measuring 39mm, with a smooth polished bezel and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The iconic black dial is complemented by Chromalight luminous hour markers and hands, providing a distinctive blue glow in low-light conditions.
Inside is the renowned Rolex Calibre 3132 automatic movement, a robust and highly regarded in-house movement with a 48-hour power reserve. The movement incorporates Rolex’s Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers, designed to improve resistance to shocks and temperature variations.
The watch is fitted to its original Oyster bracelet, complete with Oysterlock clasp and Easylink comfort extension, providing the understated and highly functional design for which the Explorer is known.
This example is supplied with its original Rolex box and original Rolex papers, adding provenance and desirability for collectors. The 2019 date places this watch firmly within the final production years of the 214270. Comparable 2019 examples are commonly offered with their original box, warranty card, booklets and tags.
Few Rolex models are as instantly recognisable or purpose-driven as the Explorer. Originally developed for demanding environments and associated with the mountaineering heritage of the 1953 Everest expedition, the Explorer has remained one of Rolex’s most understated professional watches.
The 39mm 214270 is particularly appealing for collectors who prefer the proportions of the larger case while retaining the simplicity of the traditional Explorer design. With its black dial, iconic 3-6-9 numerals and Oyster bracelet, it remains an exceptionally versatile everyday Rolex.
A genuine modern classic and an increasingly collectible discontinued reference, the Rolex Explorer 214270 offers a combination of heritage, understated design and everyday practicality that few watches can match.
