Considered the ‘watchmaker of watchmakers’, Jaeger-LeCoultre is widely regarded as a manufacture of high quality with an underrated reputation among collectors. Beyond their iconic Reverso, the manufacture have produced a myriad of styles over its near 200-year existence. Typical of the 1960s and 70s, simple gold watches were a mainstay of many watch brands – a design language now revived and appreciated in the 21st Century.
This example dates from circa 1970 and features a stark glossy black dial with piercing white numerals to contrast – a minimal time only display. Housed in a 34mm yellow gold case and beneath its elegant exteriror lies a wonderful manual wind movement – the prowess of the manufacture reflected by the thinness of the case. Overall, this undeniably exquisite dress watch represents the very best of this era of simple watchmaking from a well-respected manufacture. The condition remains outstanding and the watch is presented on a new tapered strap to fit the original gold buckle.
