Omega Speedmaster 'Straight Writing' Ref. 145.022-69
Few wristwatches enjoy a legacy like Omega’s Speedmaster. Its time on the wrists of Apollo 11’s crew during the first mission to the moon in 1969 cemented the now legendary ‘Speedy’ as one of history’s most beloved chronographs. Hand-picked by NASA for its functional prowess and durability in an airless environment, the Speedmaster rapidly transcended from an aerospace tool to a design classic. The Speedmaster remains a staple of Omega’s catalogue in 2020 - one of the many great sports chronographs of the ‘60s and ‘70s to dictate designs in the current watch market.
Since it’s voyage onboard Apollo 11, the design of Omega’s Moonwatch remains largely untouched. Even the most recent renditions remain intimately and defiantly tied to the timeless makeup of the original. Its complexities are almost mesmerising – with piercing white hands and accents standing before a rich black dial, surrounded by its signature tachymeter ring. It’s a formula that will likely never change, and indeed doesn’t have to.
From circa 1970, this 145.022-69 reference boasts the sought after 'straight writing' engravings on its caseback - a desirable feature to signify the early age of this reference. It comes alongside its original inner and outer packaging and remains in good condition with no replacement parts.
