Omega Speedmaster Ref. CK2998 Limited Edition
In 2016 Omega once again celebrated its rich legacy through the limited release of the Speedmaster Ref. CK2998. This model, recognised by HODINKEE as ‘one of the most compelling Speedmasters in recent history’, pays special tribute to the original CK2998 reference released in 1959. Omega enthusiasts had always admired its Alpha hands, symmetrical case and dark bezel. This latest edition celebrates each of these iconic features while offering its own unique qualities.
Most notably, this watch incorporates a striking use of blue on all three subdials, minutes track and polished ceramic bezel with tachymeter base scale, fastened to a blue leather strap. The opaline silvery dial offers a beautiful contrast, housing many interesting features. The hours and minutes as well as the sub-dials use rhodium-plated ‘Alpha’ hands. Omega have also reintroduced the ‘lollipop’ style chronograph seconds hands which was used by the original model. All hands and indexes have been coated in Super-LumiNova for optimum visibility in low-light conditions. This reference is powered by an Omega Cal 1861 movement, the same that famously used to power the first Moonwatch in 1969.
Only 2998 examples of this watch have been manufactured, with this example being #2443. It comes alongside its original packaging, hang tag, booklets, alternate strap, certificate and guarantee dated 30-1-17. This example remains in unworn condition with stickers still attached.
