Omega Speedmaster ALASKA Project ltd Edition
One of the most sought after of all the Speedmaster limited editions. 1970 watches were made, this one is #0592. The watch is unworn and has stickers on the back and on the clasp, even the cards have not been stamped or filled in. It is complete with everything including inner and outer packaging.
The watch is made as a tribute to the original 1970 Alaska project watch; it was developed by Omega as they worked with NASA, as of course all the Apollo Astronauts wore Omega Speedmasters. At the time of the Moon landings NASA considered exploring the dark side of the moon, the challenges faced included fluctuations in temperature to -100 C to +100 C so prototype watches were produced with a red aluminium shield. The project was named 'Alaska' because the state experiences the most extreme climate in the US. Much was written about the watch and it was a favourite exhibit in the museum. In 2008 Omega produced this small LTD edition and it sold out very quickly. These watches seldom become available and this example is as good as the day it was purchased. A collectors watch and fine investment.
